Rae Kwong

Raelene Kwong is a senior research scientist within the Biosciences Research Division of Agriculture Victoria (Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources). She leads Victoria’s R&D programs on the biological control of weeds, with current projects focusing on the aquatic weeds sagittaria and arrowhead, and terrestrial weeds including silverleaf nightshade, gorse, brooms, tradescantia and blackberry. After 15 years in the field of biological control, including a year in Darwin working with the NT’s Biocontrol Team, she returned to study and obtained her PhD through La Trobe University in 2016. Her research conducted an extensive biogeographical study on plant population genetics, plant traits and enemy release of Sagittaria populations between the USA (the native range) and invaded ranges in Australia and South Africa.
